Steelcraft, a renowned manufacturer of steel products, stands at the forefront of industry innovation. Yet, despite their expertise, they grapple with formidable challenges exacerbated by load shedding. Operating a sophisticated array of machinery, including CNC machines, welders, and benders, Steelcraft’s operations hinge on a delicate balance of power supply.
However, the inadequacy of their diesel generator has exacted a toll, resulting in significant financial setbacks, production bottlenecks, and equipment wear stemming from grid instability. The relentless fluctuations in power supply cast a shadow over their operations, posing a persistent threat to productivity and profitability.
Client's Goals
Steelcraft had a clear vision for energy resilience and operational efficiency right from the start of their project. To achieve these objectives, they set specific goals that aligned perfectly with their mission.
- Enhancing Energy Reliability: Decrease reliance on Eskom’s unreliable grid power while ensuring a consistent energy supply.
- Protecting Equipment Integrity: Safeguarding equipment integrity was a top priority for Steelcraft to protect against potential damage caused by grid instability.
- Ensuring Uninterrupted Operations: Steelcraft aimed to ensure seamless and uninterrupted operations to reduce potential production losses caused by power outages.
Our Solutions
We installed two 150kW ATESS hybrid inverters, providing a combined backup power capacity of 300kW. These inverters can seamlessly transition between grid and backup power modes, ensuring uninterrupted operation of critical machinery during power outages. To maximise energy generation, we integrated 218 high-performance 410W JA Solar Panels and 180 Canadian Solar 325W panels. Paired with two 27.7kW SolarEdge inverters, these panels harness solar energy efficiently, reducing Steelcraft’s dependency on grid power and lowering overall energy expenses. We also connected a state-of-the-art 400kWh HV Freedom Won battery system for energy storage. This high-capacity battery ensures reliable backup power supply, mitigating the impact of grid instability and minimising production losses during power outages.
In addition to the installation, we provide continuous support through our Dontuwire Maintenance services to ensure the long-term performance and reliability of the system. Our ‘Wire-Free’ and electrician maintenance subscription plan offers comprehensive services, including 24/7 technical support and weekly factory maintenance by our skilled electricians and engineers. This proactive approach ensures that Steelcraft’s solar backup system operates at peak efficiency, maximising uptime and minimising downtime.
